Punk Retrospective

There really is no one else who could play 28 songs in 48 minutes, in front of a live audience, and make it sound so great. This recording captures the intensity of a Ramones concert with a surprisingly high quality recording. I'm biased, but this is the greatest recording of a live show ever by the greatest band to ever walk the face of the Earth. This is where your music collection should begin.

The Clash were one of the most accessible of the early punk bands, which allowed them some minor flirtation with super stardom. "From Here to Eternity" is a collection of their songs, recorded between 1978 and 1982, meshed together to emulate a real concert. It works for me, but there are sometimes noticeable differences in the quality of the recordings. Overall, though, this is another "must have" for any rock collection.

Stiff Little Fingers

The boys from Belfast are at it again! They are continuing their touring in 2011, while writing material for a new album! I'm hoping they retain their signature style of aggressive hooks and meaningful political lyrics. I've said, a hundred times, that "Suspect Device" is the ultimate political song...the guitar grabs you, then Jake Burns vocals pull you the rest of the way into the truth about our wretched lives under the thumb of our oppressors...with a solution!

They are pioneers of punk, among the first crop, and the sheer brilliance of their "Inflammable Material" LP is undiminished after 30 years.
